What to Expect From Your First Chiropractic Experience

So you're thinking about giving chiropractic treatment a try. It can be nerve-wracking trying anything new, but it can also be exciting starting a journey which could greatly improve your quality of life. Many first time chiropractic experiences begin with patients wanting to relieve pain or discomfort from injuries, general wear and tear, or perhaps a condition that they have endured for an extended period of time. Chiropractic treatment offers a new way to manage these ailments, and helps relieve chronic pain. Below, we answer some of our first time chiropractic patients' most asked questions.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe and Effective?

Chiropractic care has been around for hundreds of years, and can be an effective treatment for many conditions. The best chiropractic treatment requires a team that cares first and foremost about every patient's wellbeing, and takes a holistic approach. Each patient's needs have to be individually assessed in order to uncover a plan of action which is tailor-made, as everybody is unique in some way. Your treatment plan will depend on a variety of factors including your medical history, physical health, lifestyle, and more, and will continue to be closely monitored throughout.

What Will My First Chiropractic Adjustment Be Like?

Chiropractic adjustments are one of the most popular chiropractic treatments, and are used for a variety of aches, pains, and chronic conditions. It's important to know that while some experience slight discomfort during or after the treatment, most patients do not describe a chiropractic adjustment as painful. Your licensed chiropractor will use controlled forces based on your specific pain points, while keeping any underlying conditions revealed during the full needs-assessment prior to the treatment, in mind. As a patient, you will only feel various levels of pressure and speed applied by the chiropractor. Typically, the chiropractor will deliver a strong directional thrusts into the joint, and you will hear a "pop" or ``crack" as air escapes, while pressure is released from the joints. You should also feel immediate relief when this happens.

How Long is a Chiropractic Appointment?

Chiropractic appointments tend to be quite short for the most part, typically ranging 15-45 minutes. Because your first chiropractic appointment will involve a full needs assessment, expect to be there for around 45 minutes. This will give the chiropractic team enough time to fully understand what is bothering you, what conditions you may have, and to create a personalized treatment course for you to get started.
