Plantar Fasciitis: More Than Just Foot Pain

We’ve been on your feet most of the day, and the floor is hard… Your heel has been acting up: it started with a dull ache, but now it’s more of a stabbing pain in your heel. It eases up a bit when you start moving, but it gets worse again as soon as you stop.

You may have plantar fasciitis.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot ailment that many encounter but often misunderstand.

The plantar fascia is a thick ligament running from the heel to the front of the foot. It's like the unsung hero of our foot, helping with our balance and walking patterns. It can however become inflamed and quite painful, and can make taking the first steps in the morning a challenge. Imagine feeling like you’re stepping on tiny needles every time you stand up - that’s what many with this condition feel.

What are the causes of plantar fasciitis?

There are many factors that come into play: age, weight, occupation, activities. Anything that puts a lot of pressure on the arch of the foot can contribute to plantar fasciitis:

  • 40-60 year olds may be more prone to plantar fasciitis
  • Excess body weight may put added pressure on the feet
  • Having high arches, flat feet or tight Achilles tendons maybe as risk factor
  • A job or occupation that requires you to be on your feet on hard surfaces for long periods of time, like nurses, teachers or factory workers
  • Engaging in sports where’s there’s a lot of running like jogging or soccer, or repetitive motions like dancing
  • Wearing ill-fitting or non-supportive shoes can lead to foot issues in later years

Chiropractic Care offers a ray of hope in treating plantar fasciitis

Most people with plantar fasciitis think that resting, taking pain relief medicine, and doing some foot exercises alone can help them. While these measures may bring some temporary relief, there's another avenue many haven’t considered: chiropractic care.

Here's why seeing a chiropractor might be beneficial for treating plantar fasciitis:

  • Holistic Approach: Chiropractors assess your entire body and not just your foot. Your walking posture, any misalignment in your spine, hips, or legs can be potential contributors to the condition.
  • Non-Invasive Treatment: Instead of relying heavily on pain medications or considering surgeries, chiropractic adjustments may help address the root cause of the pain.
  • Personalized Care: No two feet are the same. A chiropractor will tailor the treatment approach based on your unique needs.

Does my Health Insurance Plan cover plantar fasciitis?

Most health insurance plans today recognize the benefits of chiropractic care in maintaining our overall health, and will offer some form of coverage; check with your insurance provider to see what your specific coverage amounts are.
